We've got so much going on here at Altrusa of Gadsden that we don't know if we are coming, going or already gone! It is such an exciting time for us, knowing that everything we are working hard for will soon come to fruition. I want to take a moment to fill you in on all that is going on!
Brown Bag Lunch
Home, Garden & Design Show and Santa's Workshop
I bet you all didn't know we are getting ready to host our 2nd Annual Home, Garden and Design Show and Santa's Workshop did you? If you or someone you love has some how missed all my previous posts, let me fill you in now!
This is our BIGGEST fundraising event in Gadsden! For 50 years, Altrusa of Gadsden has hosted an Annual Antique Show. As times have changed, so have we. So in 2018 we launched our first Home, Garden, & Design Show. We had over sixty vendors at this event and had over 1,500 visitors through our doors! With so much success last year, we immediately decided that we wanted to it all again this year. So, 01-02 November 2019, we will again open our doors for the 2nd Annual Home, Garden, & Design Show. This event will be held again at The Venue at Coosa Landing. Now, I know there are the football fans out there who are thinking "My team is playing, no way am I going to go!". Well, guess what? We thought of you also! Long Furniture will have the stage at The Venue set up with stadium seating and will be broadcasting the game(s) through out The Venue! So come out and kick back and enjoy the game on the big screens.
We also decided to do things a bit different this year...call us crazy....no really, we are crazy...this year, it is TWO SHOWS in one! That is right! While the Home Show will be going on in the Main Hall at The Venue, we will be hosting our first annual Santa's Workshop in the Meeting Halls right next door! Santa's Workshop will have a host of vendors from throughout the area including Pink Zebra, The Atticy Collection, Pampered Chef, and so many more! We have a vendor selling custom made Christmas ornaments, children's books and...we are going to have SANTA! He is make a drip down extra early for us this year in order to be with us. More Than A Memory Photography will be on hand to take photos with Santa, so this will be an awesome time to get your Holiday Photos taken and marked off the "To Do List".
Separating the event will be Candy Cane Lane which will feature a variety of food vendors including Momo's Cakes and Tea Town Alabama. There will be something for every sweet tooth for sure!
What can you do!?!
Curios as to how you can help during this hectic time at Altrusa? Well, there are lots of ways you can participate:
1) Don't forget to order your bag lunch! Who knew eating could help?
2) Become a Sponsor! We offer sponsorship's for the show starting at $50.00 and will provide you with a custom banner that we will display through out The Venue during our show. An easy and affordable way for you to promote your business.
3) Become a Vendor! We still have a few spaces left on both sides of the show and we offer very competitive rates for booth spaces.
4) Attend the Shows! Come shop, dine, and enjoy the game! Show dates are 01-02 November doors opening from 9 AM to 6 PM. Tickets will be on sale for $10.00 and gains access to both shows.
5) Become a Member! We are always open to new members here at Altrusa International Inc of Gadsden and we love to teach people more about what we do. So if you are looking for a good way to volunteer your time, we are happy to have you join us!
So if any of the above seems interesting to you, then send us a shout out, we would love to hear from you!
The "bers" are upon us! Unfortunately, Mother Nature has not quite decided to let go of Summer yet, so we are still heating 100 degree temperatures here in Alabama. Meanwhile in New York, highs are in the "low 80s". If it wasn't for the lack of sweet tea and my love for my Altrusa family here, I would be up North next week! We have had a very productive couple of weeks here, so let's get into it.
Home, Garden, and Design Show/Santa's Workshop
Vendors are getting contracts in as we speak. Santa's Workshop is almost filled, so if you are interested in being a vendor at this show, please let us know ASAP! Submit information here or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The Home, Garden and Design Show still has some spaces left, so please, if you are interested in being a vendor at this show, contact us here or email email@example.com.
We will soon begin to launch our advertising campaign for both shows! We will have billboards going up through out the area, advertisements going into theaters, and flyers for businesses to place in their store windows. Thanks to member Jerri Timm for her great designs!

As a way to help our community to get to know Altrusa and it's members better, we are introducing our Monthly Member Spotlight! This month's Member Spotlight is on Ami Hardy who has been a member for 2 years.
Ami, can you please take a moment to introduce yourself?
Hi! My name is Ami Hardy. My family and I live in Rainbow City, AL. My husband, Rickey, and I have 3 children: Rickey, Jr., Breanna, and Jacob. As our children got older (only 1 left at home now), I apparently began to subconsciously fear empty nest syndrome. Therefore, we now have four cats (Chino, Gatsby, Maisey, and Trouble) and a dog named Diesel. So as you can see, we have been cured by fur!
I work for Scott Logistics Corporation as a logistics coordinator. We are a freight brokerage group. When you buy from Amazon, Chewy, Kroger or even Bargain Hunt, I may have negotiated with the trucking company to get the products to the store.
How did you hear about Altrusa and how long have you been a member?
It all started with an invitation to Game Night 2 years ago. My best friend, Angela Walker (our current president) invited me and I had a blast with the ladies in the group that night! I also remember my mom and her best friend talking about Altrusa when I was younger. If my memory serves correctly, the two of them helped decorate some events for the club years ago, however they were never members.
What do you like most about being a member? Any specific events or activities that stand out to you?
I love being a member of Altrusa! I love that we work together while having a great time to do things and give back to our community. I like that one of my fellow members was also my kindergarten teacher, and I've gotten to share with her as an adult, many of the life rules she thought me years ago. I also enjoy being in the club with my best friend, Angela, while making new friends along the way. I love being a part of such an amazing group of people! It's almost impossible to pick just one event or activity that we have done was my favorite. I loved the Home, Garden and Design Show last year (and I can't wait for it to come around again this year), and I enjoyed listening to LaDonna Gatlin sing at the Women's Show as well.
What do you feel you bring to the Club?
Well, I've been told I make a mean pineapple upside down cake. Seriously, though, I like to think that I bring a servant's heart, a willing hand, and a smile to the club. I feel like every member possess those traits though. So maybe they just like me for my cake?!?
What do you wish the Club did different? Better? Added?
Maybe I am biased, but I think our club is really good! The only thing I would change is to add more members. Y'all are missing out on a great chance to have some fun and give back to our community at the same time! What are you waiting for? Come join us!
Where do you see the Club going in the future?
Bigger and better than ever!
One of my favorite things about being a member of Altrusa is the fact that we give so much back to the community. Everything we raise goes back into our communities in some way. Last year, Alstrua of Gadsden donated five read wagons filled with toys and books to the Children's Hospital in Birmingham. The wagons will be used to transport patients between their rooms and appointments through out the hospital. Books and toys will be used to help entertain patients and siblings of patients who might be stuck in a waiting room. Altrusa also provided Christmas and Back-to-School supplies for local children in the area this past year.
All this is made possible by the fundraising we do throughout the year. We take grade pride in all the events that we do and are constantly looking for ways to improve on what we do. For 50 years, Altrusa hosted it's Annual Antique Show with great success. Then as 40 years rolled into 45 years and 45 years into 50 years, we began to see that the days of Antique Shows was coming to a close. So in 2017 we celebrated our Golden Anniversary and without further ado, we thanked our loyal vendors and guest, and closed the door on the final Antique Show.
Our Antique Show was our BIGGEST fundraising event for those 50 years, so closing the doors meant a huge loss of revenue to Altrusa of Gadsden. This also meant it was time to do a make over and come up with a new idea that could recover the loss. Enter the Home, Garden and Design Show! In 2018 we launched our 1st Annual Home, Garden and Design Show with over 75 different business and vendors set up inside The Venue at Coosa Landing. We had over 1500 guest come through our doors for this event! Money that we raised from vendor fees and ticket sales again, ALL WENT BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY! The Home, Garden and Design Show was such a success for both us and the vendors, that we have brought it back again this year for the 2nd Annual Home, Garden, and Design Show. This year, we are branching out even further and hosting our Santa's Workshop. Both of these events will be held 01-02 November 2019 at The Venue at Coosa Landing. If you are interested in becoming a vendor at either of these events, you can request information by going to our Events page and clicking on the show of your choice and requesting more information.
The Home, Garden and Design Show and Santa's Workshop is our two biggest fundraising events that Altrusa International Inc. of Gadsden hosts. However, in between these events, we are also looking at other ways to raise funds. Currently we have our Cutest Pets Fall 2019 Contest going on! Registration for this event is $25.00 per pet and contestants are entering a chance to win a $250.00 cash prize! Again, ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENT GO BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY!!! So if you are someone you know has what they think is the Cutest Pet, please submit a photo and register at our Cutest Pets Registration page and don't forget to vote for who you think is the cutest pet! Along with this, at the end of September Altrusa of Gadsden will be selling Brown Bag Lunches for $10.00 each. Each bag will contain a BBQ sandwich provided by Local Joe's BBQ, a bag of chips and desert. Bags will be available for pick up or delivery based on location. And again, ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENT GO BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY!!!
So there you have it, those are just some of the ideas that we have come up with. We want to hear from you the community to find out what other events that you would like to see in the area that Altrusa of Gadsden could help with. Want to see a fun run? How about a cake walk? Or maybe you are just interested in donating your time? What ever way you come up with, we will be happy to hear from you. So comment below or submit us a line at our Contact Page. We are happy to hear from you!
I am Scott Browning and I am the newest member of Altrusa International of Gadsden, however, I have been a volunteer of theirs for a while now. I became a member because I wanted to do something to give back to my community. I look forward to what I can contribute to the club my many talents and time.
